Brigantine NJ Beach Information

Brigantine Beach Patrol

Founded in 1938, the Brigantine Beach Patrol has grown both in numbers and the skills required of its members. Current manpower strength is 86 working guards, both male and female, with ten officers. The Beach Patrol sponsors swimming and rowing competitions and swimming clinics for youth. Brigantine guards provide a 6 week swim lesson program that teaches almost 200 children water safety. Sign-ups are always the first week of July. Guarded beaches begin on the Memorial Day weekend these beaches are 2nd street north, 15th street South (weekends only). Full staffed beaches always begin the third week of June thru the Labor Day weekend. The Patrol offers limited weekend service during the month of September at 2nd Street north, 15 Street south and 26 Street south. Beach Patrol Headquarters – 16th Street & Beach (609) 266-5233.

Beach Tag Fees:

Beach tags are required from June 14th to Labor Day during the hours of 10:30am to 5:30pm. Tags can be purchased at the Beach Fee Office, located at 265 42nd Street and is open from May 1st through September 1st. The Beach Fee Office is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and can be reached by calling (609) 264-7350.

Beach Chairs available for the disabled. To reserve: 609-266-5233. If the beach is in operation you can purchase tags on the beach from the inspectors.

Parking permits for municipal parking lots can be purchased for $25.00 for a Seasonal permit, weekly permits $15.00 and $10.00 for daily permits:

Swimming is permitted at protected beaches only from June 14th to Labor Day during the hours of 10:00 am - 5:30 pm, while the lifeguards are on duty:

Drive on Beach Info

Four-Wheel Drive Permits are available at Brigantine Beach Community Center located on 42nd Street.

Driving a four-wheel drive is permitted on the beach, as long as a permit is obtained. (See fee table below). Permits will be now be valid from January till December. Permit holders must follow rules and regulations of permit. Permanently Disabled persons need to provide documentation with proof of permanent disability to receive discount. For information regarding permits please call 266-2891. Applicants should present a valid driver’s license, auto registration and proof of insurance.

All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) are not permitted on the beach. Drive and or All-Wheel Drive Vehicles do not qualify for a permit. Vehicles MUST be Four-Wheel Drive:

 4 Wheel drive permit: $200 before April 30 - $300 starting May 1st  

 Vehicle owners age 60 & over: $80.00 - $85 after March 1st

 Permanently Disabled Persons: $80 - $85.00 after March 1

 Replace Lost Permit $30

 Veterans and Active Military persons - FREE!

Boats and Watercraft

The Boat Ramp is located at 5th St. South and Bayshore Avenue. A permit to use the ramp is required May 15th to September 15th. Permits are only sold at the boat ramp:

  Daily $25.00 ~ Weekly $35.00     

 Seasonal – May $80.00      Seasonal – June 1st $130.00  

  Replace lost permit $30.00


Licensed boats only can be launched from: 

6th Street North    28th Street - 30th Street  

30th Street    40th Street

Jet Skis 

You must have a permit to launch from designated beach. The cost is $125.00/yr. In order to obtain a permit, applicant must have a copy of Face sheet of insurance policy (minimum $500,000 liability insurance required). Permit holders must follow rules and regulations of permit. Jet Skiing is permitted in the inlet side of the South Jetty as designated by appropriately posted signs.


Kayaking is permitted at the following beaches:

 Adjacent to all Lifeguard protected Beaches
 The North-end beaches (North of 15th Street North)

 Absecon Inlet Beaches
 Area between Sandy Lane and Seaside Rd lifeguard station
  26th Street South - City Dock Area


Must have a permit, the cost is $150.00 year. Permit applicant must have proof of Liability insurance. The launch area is located from Neptune Drive to Club Drive.

October 1st to May 28th, dogs are allowed on the beach provided they are on a leash, not longer than 6 ft. Dog feces must be removed. Dogs allowed on the North-End Beach any time - same rules apply.
